Introduction to Media Law:
Short Course (2 days full-time)
An intensive two-day course offering a comprehensive
introduction to media law. Designed for working journalists and
those contemplating a career as staff or freelance writers in any
sector of the industry, especially those in newspapers, magazines,
web publishing and broadcast.

Introduction, rights and restrictions. Crime
and the courts, contempt, children and young people, sex offences.
Libel risks. Libel defences. |
| Day 2: |
Freedom of Information, privacy.
Breach of confidence, copyright. Codes of conduct, ethical
dilemmas. Conclusions. |
Assignments: Students will be expected to undertake background reading and short practical exercises in preparation for the course.
Books: McNae's Essential Law for Journalists and Media Law course notes (London School of Journalism). Cost included in course fees.
